Description: Two PhD positions are available from February 2008 for highly motivated individuals in the new research group of Stephen Rea at the Epigenetics Laboratory, Department of Biochemistry, NUI Galway, Ireland. The group will investigate the role of histone modifying enzymes in the regulation of gene expression and in tumorigenesis. The work will involve tissue culture, protein expression, purification & analysis, PCR, Q-PCR, in vitro transcription assays, cell transformation assays and immunofluorescence microscopy.
Qualifications: Candidates will ideally have a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in a relevant discipline, with some experience in cell biology and molecular biology. A demonstrable knowledge of chromatin and cancer biology is also desirable.
Salary Details: These positions will be funded at €16,000 per annum plus academic fees for four years. The positions are funded from a Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) President of Ireland Young Researcher Award (PIYRA).
