Defining the Search Parameters

You can use the 'Search NoE/ ALL By' drop-down menu to select whether you wish to search All labs within the database or just those labs belonging to the Epigenome Network of Excellence (NoE). NoE is the default.

Singe Criteria Searches

You can search the database using single and multiple criteria searches. If you only which to search by single criteria then enter data into only one field, and the multiple criteria AND/OR drop-down menus are ignored.

• Search by Lab Name
  Enter the name or part of the name of the lab you are looking for into this box.
• Search by Research Focus
  Enter keywords which best describe the research you are interested, labs carrying out research in this area will be returned. Separate each word with a space.
• Search by Country
  Enter the country in which the labs you are interested in reside.

Multiple Criteria Searches

To search by multiple criteria, enter text into the search boxes as above and use the AND/OR drop-down menus to further define your search.

Example 1:

Search ALL by
Lab Name: Peter Meyer AND
Research Focus: Chromatin AND
Country: UK

Result 1: This will return any labs in the database whose name contains all or part of 'Peter Meyer' AND who carries out/ or is interested in research in 'Chromatin' AND resides in the UK.
Result 2: Alternatively if both AND/OR drop-down boxes were set to OR the result of the search would return any labs whose name contains either all or part of 'Peter Meyer' OR 'carries out research in 'Chromatin' OR reside in the UK.

Example 2:

Search NoE by
Lab Name: Peter Meyer OR
Research Focus: Chromatin AND
Country: UK

Result: Search returns those labs belonging to the NoE whose lab names contain either 'Peter Meyer' OR their research involves 'Chromatin' AND also reside in the UK

Example 3:

Search ALL by
Lab Name: Peter Meyer AND
Research Focus: Chromatin OR
Country: UK

Result: Search returns those labs whose lab name is or in part called 'Peter Meyer' AND whose research involved 'Chromatin', OR any other lab that resides in the UK.

Example 4:

Search ALL by
Lab Name: Peter Meyer OR
Research Focus: AND/OR IGNORED
Country: UK

Result: Returns all labs with the name containing all or part of 'Peter Meyer' OR those that reside in the UK

Wildcards

If the wildcard '*' is entered alone into any field then all records will be returned. Wildcards used in conjunction with other words are not supported and will be ignored.

Results

The results are listed in alphabetical order based on Lab Name. However by clicking on the small black arrow heads to the side of the other column titles you can order alphabetically by those instead.
